Durgesh Kumar Yadav is from Hasanapur, Rupandehi. He is one of the leading farmer of Rupandehi and he is a technical student i.e. he is studying Agriculture at Prithu Technical College, IAAS, TU in 8th semester. He is doing farming on 85 bigha of rented land. He pays around Nrs. 8 lakh rent annually. His annual income is estimated to be Nrs. 1.5 crore. He started this profession from 2068 B.S. It has been a passion for him to be on this profession. He took loan Nrs.2.5 crore from NIC Asia Bank and other respectively to get stated on this business. Upto 2076 B.S. in coordination with Provience Government first time in Nepal they buy a Total Mix Ration Block(TMR) Block machine to produce feed to the livestock i.e. mainly for Buffalo. He is also coordinating his business work with governmental body i.e. Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Project (PMAMP).

Kumar started by cultivating black gram, sugarcane, groundnut, papaya, watermelon  respectively and this profession motivated him for further steps  toward livestock farming like buffalo, goat, fish, etc. Currently he is an inspiration and 25 year old successful entrepreneur for young generation .Now, he employs 10 permanent with 100 others temporary farmers in his fields for various purpose. He explained that now he has learned the techniques of farming off-seasonal vegetables in the training organized by various governmental and non-governmental organization. Kumar says: “The soil plays a big role in cultivating good vegetable farming.”

Right now local communities are taking him an community leader and he is contributing his local product to the nearest market i.e. Butwal, Bhairahawa, Manigram ,Suryapurva, etc  and his product market is extended upto Chitwan district.

According to Kumar, there are many challenges which arises at some point of time like loan problem, many agricultural inputs and many more and goods that  is sold in the market is not much valued  as a result of which the price of goods is lowered  which affect his daily life. He also said that along with the many challenges there is large possibility to expand an agriculture enterprise along with the development of agriculture sector of Nepal.

These short visit to Kumar’s farm was productive and made me feel these profession is not monotonous and high potential in coming future. Me as a agriculture student I feel proud and encourage that we should also take a such step in the field of agriculture which will not only as a source of income for us but also should provide the impact to the society and to the nation as Kumar does.
